My figure sculpture is inspired by my love of the human form and interest in people and cultural heritage. I grew up in a multi cultural family and in a cultural diverse neighborhood. This environment brought up many questions about humanity, which I bridge through sculpture. The difference between race and cultures are indicated by textiles, colors and observations of the human body as a link for the universal connections within humanity. In turn this artwork helps reflects my identity and establishes my place within two worlds.

I use the historical modeling technique of renaissance sculptors who model solid forms, which were cut apart and hollowed. The sculptures I create show marks and my hand to indicate process and time. Cuts, shapes and planes create shadows that emulate the human form. Often the surface is left lightly toned with bright colors which accent the human body, people and cultures. My goal with each sculpture is to cause the viewer to experience the sculptures as a whole, in hopes that they consider their culture and their role within it.
